Karte von Mecklenburg (1815–1934)

Mecklenburg is a historical region in northern Germany comprising the western and larger part of the federal-state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The largest cities of the region are Rostock, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg, Wismar and Güstrow. Mecklenburg is now a part of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. For centuries, Mecklenburg was an imperial dominion with its own history and culture.[1][2] German locational data sometimes comes to us in hyphenated form, as we have seen with the boroughs of Berlin and Düsseldorf, in which the greater municipality precedes the hyphen, with the borough following. This protocol may apply primarily at that level. At this level, at least in this case, Wikipedia has Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania appearing as Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. That is, at that level, or in that usage, the smaller area or entity precedes the hyphen.

The Wikidata id below applies to this as an historical region, its having had formal status during the period upon which we are focused. There is separate Wikidata on other formations around "Mecklenburg", which we may need later.
