Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (Konstantin Tziolkovski, Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovskii, Константин Циолковский) was a multidimensional scientist and aero inventor. He later became famous as a rocket scientist.[1]

In the 1890s Tsiolkovsky worked on designing a large metallic airship, and in the process decided to create a wind tunnel to conduct aerodynamic testing. He identified 80 cm3 as an upper limit to the cross-section of a body moving through the air with unimpeded flow, and tested the drag coefficients of various shapes.[2]

This person had 0 publications and 3 patents in this database.

Patents whose inventor or applicant is Konstantin Tsiolkovsky or Konstantin Tziolkovski or Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovskii or Константи́н Эдуа́рдович Циолко́вский

  • Patent RU-1909-19735 (English title: Mobile joints for metal sheets in a balloon envelope, Filing date: 1909-07-09)
  • Patent GB-1909-29150 (English title: Improvements in and relating to Gas Bags or Envelopes, more particularly intended for use with Airships, Filing date: 1909-12-14)
  • Patent FR-1910-419490 (English title: metallic aerostat, Supplementary to patent: Patent GB-1909-29150, Filing date: 1910-01-31)

Publications by or about Konstantin Tsiolkovsky or Konstantin Tziolkovski or Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovskii or Константи́н Эдуа́рдович Циолко́вский

Notes on publications

We seem to be missing many of his publications. Just from en.wp, we see several relevant to aero:

  • "A Controllable Metallic Balloon" (1892) -- some publication apart from his patent probably
  • "An Airplane or a Birdlike (Aircraft) Flying Machine" (1894)
  • Tsiolkovsky, Konstantin E. (1893), On the Moon (На Луне)
  • Tsiolkovsky, Konstantin E. (1903), "The Exploration of Cosmic Space by Means of Reaction Devices (Исследование мировых пространств реактивными приборами)", The Science Review (alternative translations of "Reaction devices": "rocket devices", "reaction engines" aka jet engines)
