IE is an abbreviation in this wiki referring to Ireland. Irish residents filing patents in other countries would give their home address which might be in Ireland which for this purpose we distinguish from Great Britain.

Irish filings in London also say "Ireland"; Scottish filings say "Scotland" (more less definitively a part of the United Kingdom after the Jacobite risings of the 18th century); but applicants from England and Wales generally do not name their country of residence. (Apparently exceptions to this rule do exist, for example Patent GB-1911-19089 in which England is specified for London!)

The Irish Republic issued a declaration of provisional governance in April 1916 and a declaration of independence in April 1919; the government of the UK legislated the partition of Ireland in 1921–2.
